Downsizing from a classic, Georgian farmhouse in Dorset to a converted cottage in the garden was an unexpected move for Josephine Browning. ‘After my husband Bill’s death it became obvious that the house and grounds were far too much for me to manage on my own, ’ says Josephine. ‘My children encouraged me to downsize but it needed to be something special to entice me to move. Bill and I loved the house and the village, it was perfect for us and filled with happy memories so it was difficult to imagine myself anywhere else.’ After a few months of house hunting Josephine had what she describes as a Eureka moment. ‘I suddenly realised I had a perfectly good cottage in the grounds, the more I thought about it the more sure I felt I could transform it into something special’.
